Kassopi, capital of Kassiopi, built in 1o half of the 4th century BC a naturally fortified position, on a plateau at an altitude of 550 – 650m., on the slopes of Zalogo in order to protect from exploitation Elean colony, fertile plain that stretched south.
The city flourished in the 3rd century BC, when they built large public buildings and rebuilt many homes. The city had its own mint. The prosperity lasted until 168 BC when it was destroyed by the Romans (167 BC).
