Visitors can reach and admire the monument by climbing 410 steps, which begin from the Monastery of St. Demetrius. At this place in 1803, when Souli after years of struggles succumbed to Ali Pasha, 63 Souli with children in her arms, singing and dancing, fell from the cliff, preferring to die rather than surrender to the Ottoman conqueror.
Symbol and memory of the sacrifice of Souli, is the imposing monument was erected there in 1961 with nationwide fundraiser.
